Big Hearts Home Care is Featured on the Chicagoland Approved Senior Network
Femie Hanson, Caregiver and Client Care Manager for Big Hearts Home Care in Chicago, Illinois, has been chosen as the featured provider for all of Chicagoland for the week of September 26, 2016. Her tips for family caregivers and other information will be shared all week at: https://www.facebook.com/chicagoseniornetwork/
Big Hearts Home Care was chosen because of their dedication to their community and to the clients they serve. They have written several articles for the Chicagoland Approved Senior Network. They can be found here: http://www.chicagolandseniornetwork.com/big-hearts-home-care-chicago/
When asked why Femie got into the home care business, she told us: “What made me decide to get into the home care industry is the compassion that keeps growing inside of me while taking care of elderly from past years of caregiving. Some may call it destiny, I call it faith. I trust and believe in myself that I do a good job. I have been in several houses where the family requested to have me back. For me, nothing is more rewarding than opening-up your heart for someone who could really use it. This gives me enough reason to get-up in the morning and do what I do.”
Femie also shared her top three tips for family caregivers in Chicago: “I would advise family caregivers to:
1. Set negative feelings aside, such as feelings of shame, guilt and worries.
It’s vital for family members to know that no one causes it; no one can control, nor fix it.
2. Avoid caregiver burnout before it happens.
Read and do research on tips for avoiding burnout, for example, take a break and go out to a movie, walk in the park, revisit hobbies that you used to enjoy doing, take lots of pictures, dance, sing, listen to music and such.
3. Love compassionately and laugh more often.
It’s a rewarding experience to make someone smile, let alone laugh so hard that they forget their pain for a moment. I once started singing while preparing meals, the dogs started howling, which turned out to be a moment of laughter for all of us.”
